MIDWIFE, OWNER

Caeli Werner, CPM

My midwifery journey began when I watched Robin care for my mother. My mom delivered all of us with out-of-hospital midwives. Robin’s gentle energy was contagious. I loved to hear the whoosh of the doppler as we listened to baby. Then and there, I decided I wanted to be a midwife. This passion was reenkindled when my sister-in-law began to look for a homebirth midwife to attend the deliver of her first. In 2020, I took a definitive step and began a full time apprenticeship in Virginia. The practice was a busy practice offering home and birth center births to 90-100 families a year. I learned under four incredibly talented midwives, Misty Ward CPM LM, Emily Friar CPM LM, Kai Lyons CPM LM and Danika Johnson CPM LM. About 8% of the mothers we cared for were VBACs. I participated in the care of two planned breech deliveries and four sets of twins. While at Brookhaven, I fell in love with home birth. As a provider, I preferred knowing a mother was comfortably laboring in her own space as I drove to her and, that, after she welcomed her little one, I would leave her tucked in bed surround with food, family and familiarity. No car rides there or back! No need to worry about transitioning into new spaces. I am so excited to offer this opportunity to mothers my home state, Missouri!

I have been a certified professional midwife (CPM) since fall 2022.

Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)

CPMs are experts at offering care for home and birth center births. They are the only midwifery path that requires extensive training in out of hospital settings. I followed the nationally recognized PEP (portfolio evaluation process) a route that emphasized in field experience. Here is a little more about CPMs from NARM (our national certifying body’s) website:

The Certified Professional Midwife credential, issued by NARM, is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE, formerly NOCA). The mission of ICE is to promote excellence in credentialing for practitioners in all occupations and professions. The NCCA accredits many healthcare credentials, including the Certified Nurse-Midwife. NCCA encourages their accredited certification programs to have an education evaluation process so candidates who have been educated outside of established pathways may have their qualifications evaluated for credentialing. The NARM Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP) meets this recommendation. The CPM is the only NCCA-accredited midwifery credential that includes a requirement for out-of-hospital experience.
